At the Centre of Village Life
The Bampton Community Centre project re-invigorated an existing grade II listed former village school and now provides new accommodation that allows the building to continue to function at the centre of village life.
All additions, repairs and renewals were carried out sympathetically in materials and styles that reflect the character of the original building. The two new extensions, whilst being sympathetically placed in relation to the original building, are strong statements in their own right and reinforce the street presence that had been lost. Principal rooms in the original part of the building were largely left unaltered with the period features retained and protected. New walls and insertions were lightweight studwork walling in order to preserve the existing fabric of the building.
