Bringing Art & Science Together
Our brief was to provide 4 new teaching rooms for science, art and technology to replace some ageing and obsolete classrooms based elsewhere on the site. The location of the new building was chosen to minimise disruption to the school during construction but also to offer the possibility to expand and develop the school facilities in the future.
Located next to a listed Victorian garden wall, the building is designed to be the first in a series of pods housing different classrooms. The layout allows for a simple link connection between adjacent buildings to be created without disturbing construction.
The height of the building and placing the art classrooms on the first floor enabled us to display students art projects in the best possible light whilst making maximum use of natural daylight and minimising the requirement for artificial lighting.
